Interview with Omnipotent, Female Fronted Prog Metal Band from Panama

Omnipotent is Progressive Metal Band from Panama City. They're Edgar Candanedo - Bass, Diego Morales - Drums, Carlos Vargas - Guitars, and Claudia Cordero - Vocals. Omnipotent gave us some information. Check it out.

Tell us about omnipotent?

We are a progressive metal band from Panama. We have been playing as a band for almost 4 years, primarily in the Panama City Metal Scene, and a couple of shows in other cities within Panama. We recorded an E/P album back on 2013, and are about to jump into the studio to record our debut full album.

What are lyrical themes of OMNIPOTENT?

Through our lyrics we try to make sense of human experience, its complexity and opacity. Power, human alienation, exploitation and social justice are also among our topics.

What are your influences?

Our influences come from many different music styles and bands, such as Dream Theater, Tool, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Tesseract, Karnivool, Pantera, Megadeth, and so on....

Can you tell us about Metal Scene in Panama?

Despite of being a small country, we have many bands in almost every style of rock, including metal, but we lack of enough support from the public, media and investors.

Who are Your Favorite Panama Metal Band?

There are many, but we’d say Harvest and Komodo are doing a great job.

How were the songs written?

All our songs were (and are) written collectively in jamming sessions, or from riff ideas our guitarist comes up with. Then our singer adds the vocal melodies (or growls) and writes the lyrics.

How did the recording process go?

We had worked with our producer weeks before going into the studio, so the sessions went pretty smoothly. It was also the first time for some of us recording backing vocals (for Uprising), but it was pretty fun. 

What are your future plan?
We are about to record our first full album, by the end of this year. After that we plan on promoting the album, and get our first gig outside Panama.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?

We would like to play in South America, USA, and Europe, since they have the biggest scenes for our music style, but we are willing to play in any country that would have us.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
It’d be a dream come true to be the opening band for Opeth or Tesseract some day.
