Interview with Marte, Progressive Metal Band from Brazil
Marte is Progressive Metal Band from Curitiba,
Paraná, Brazil. They're Rômulo Genaro - Drums, Marcelo Maus - Guitars, Vocals,
and Roger Larsen - Vocals, Bass.
Tell us about Marte?
Marte is a
Progressive Metal power trio from Curitiba, Brasil. Formed by Marcelo Maus
(guitar and vocals), Roger Larsen (bass and vocals) and Rômulo Genaro (drums
and artwork), we play music influenced by classic Prog Rock and contemporary
Metal bands.
What are lyrical themes of Marte?
Drugs, Philosophy, Astronomy, Astrology, Mythology, basically, any
excuse to talk about Satan.
What are your influences?
They range from the
classic Prog Rock, bands like Rush, King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Van der Graaf
Generator, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Gentle Giant, Jethro
Tull, some brazilian artists like Zé Ramalho, Raul Seixas, Hermeto Pascoal,
Chico Science & Nação Zumbi, Almir Sater, Alceu Valença, Airto
Moreira, various Metal bands of different genres, such as Mastodon, Sepultura,
Primus, Sleep, Melvins, High on Fire, Tool, Slayer, Gojira, Entombed, Pantera
and the greatest of them all, Black Sabbath.
Who are Your Favorite Brazillian Metal Bands?
Sepultura, Krisiun, Cassandra, Sociedade Voodoo, Barra Pesada, Meggie
Townsend, Tressultor, ÁguaPesada.
It was an old
drawing our drummer did, we liked the ram idea and he did a better version,
more emblematic.
How were the songs written?
With much anger,
hatred and bitterness.
How did the recording process go?
It was pure luck,
we had no idea what we would do, we had no money, but the abortion fragment and
our good friend, Gege (from Valentino 5 Cordas), helped us with his studio, the
legendary PLAY31, and recorded the album, with the support of Beer (guitar and
vocals from Repossíveis).
It went well, we recorded all the instrumentals live in 2 days and in
the third day we did the vocals.
The mixing and mastering was done by Renato Ximú (from Carne de Onça).
What are your future plans?
Keep playing,
writing new stuff, start a brazilian tour as soon as possible, finding the
seven dragon balls and becoming immortal.
Are there any countries you’re interested in
touring or performing in? Why?
We would love to
play in any place that welcomes us, in every country on Earth, just for the
sake of traveling, playing our music for different people and hopefully finding
awesome bands everywhere.
What bands would you like to play alongside?
Rush and Black
Sabbath, but that’s not possible anymore. =(
Any last words?
Thanks for the
interview and may the force be with you
