Interview with Rum Smugglers, Pirate Metal from Croatia

Introduce us to Rum Smugglers?

We arr the Rum Smugglers. We play oldschool thrash metal and often drift away into speed metal, power metal and black metal. Were stationed at Zagreb, Croatia, and we have a demo album called, Hemp Rope Justice on our yt channel and reverbnation. Also, our single EP, Rum Smugglers CO., is available on our bandcamp.

What are lyrical themes of Rum Smugglers?

The lyrical themes come from a story that our drummer started a couple of years ago. Also, piratical stuff, like stealing some treasures and getting drunk as fuck.

Who are your influences?

The main influences would definitely be, Running Wild, Kreator, Sodom, Swashbuckle. Other influences would be Skyclad, Immortal, Exodus, Megadeth, Sabbat and Black Sabbath.

Can you tell us about Metal scene in your town?

A mixed bag. There are a lot of great bands, but lots of them dont get a chance, since the people who should be supporting the scene (and giving the clubs some profit), would rather spend their money on booze and shit like that, then spend a lot less to go watch a show. Its rough, but it will get better in time.

Who are your Favorite Croatian Metal Band?

Wizards of Gore, partypornogoregrind from Zagreb, Croatia.

How do you think your music will progress in the future?

One day, were gonna play on the Moon. Just kidding. Can not say, but right now were working on new songs, have a couple of gigs on the way. All we can say that were gonna be making more Eps, albums, whatever and were not giving up. Not saying were gonna be superstars, but who knows what the future holds.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?

Serbia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, USA, anywhere actually, the more the merrier. So we can show a more broader audience what croatian pirates are made of.

What bands would you like to play alongside?

Kreator, Tankard, Swashbuckle hehe. Basically, anyone who wants us to play with, they can just whistle. We would love to share the stage with our buddies from the USA, Lords Of The Drunken Pirate Crew, pirate folk/melodic death metal.
