Tell
us about Lies of the Machine?
The Machine...well...a bunch of
misfits, freaks and all manner of succubi banded together to form something
new, something wicked, something different. It's been three years since the
band's inception, and we went through some changes, call them bumps in the road
if you will, but the core concept remained the same: to bring the psychocircus
to town.
What
are lyrical themes of Lies of the Machine?
It actually covers a lots of different
areas from deffinitelynotsex through drinking whilst driving your airship till
the hazards of handling eldritch artefacts touched by the Old Gods....you know,
the usual! ;)
What
are your influences?
To be honest, I can't even name all of
them. Our music is an amalgam of all the members' personal style and
influences, therefore quite diverse. To narrow it down, we gather a lot from
slavic and middle-eastern folk music, symphonic and power metal trends along
with some blues and funky.
Can
you tell us about Metal Scene in Your Town?
Thankfully, we live in the capital
city of Hungary, Budapest, therefore the metal scene is quite lively....it has
some hotspots in other cities, but most of the events are centered here. the
big bands are the same as everywhere, they make the big gigs, they play the big
venues, they move the big crowds. The underground is much smaller, but still
pretty much alive. We usually have around 100-150 people at the Lies Of The
Machine shows, so we can't complain.
Who
are Your Favorite Hungarian Metal Band?
Damn, hard question! :D
To be honest, it's pretty hard to
chose a favorite. I really like bands who, just as we do in da Machine, think
outside the box and try and make something unique, straying from the usual
ropes of the genres. For example Rumproof (pirate metal with a folkish twist),
Leecher (metal on fakking chellos with a female lead), The Wedding At The
Slaughterhouse (playing classic cartoon theme songs in grindcore) or Niburta (who
mix modern metalcore with balkanic folk music). If I had to chose apersonal favorite, it would be Virrasztók
with their electro-folk-metal, but all the aforementioned bands deserve a
listen.
How
were the songs written?
The songwriting process is actually
pretty instinctic with the band.
- Walking home in a drunken stupor I
come up with a batshit crazy concept
- I bring the concept to the band on
the next rehearsal.
- Klári-Balázs-Milán start working on
the tunes, Thor gives us the tempo, and I write the lyrics for juci @ I.
- We scrap the original crazy idea for
an even crazier, and redo the lyrics and singing parts all together.
- After 20-30 versions the song is
tested before a live, zombified audience.
If it all works out, a new song is
born.
How
did the recording process go?
It went really, really, realllllllllly
slow :D We started recording early 2016. starting with the drums, followed by
guitars, bass and keyboards. Most of the content were recorded individually in
each person's private studios. The things we recorded together were the vocals
and they were a blast! We even added some last-minute changes (like the
goblin-like parts to the psychocircus) to make the songs even freakier.
What
does the future hold for Debut Album?
Well, we hope to get it to all corners
of the world. we already have confirmation (and articles) the it had reached
the US and Taiwan, but we still have a looooong way to go. It is actually a
personal dream of mine, that I'd sit down in a metla bar in Sweden during my vacation,
and hear our song played there. (Hey a man can dream, can't he?)
How
do you think your music will progress in the future?
It depends in which aspect are you
looking at it. we have a lot of ground to cover in experience, that's for sure.
I myself can't even recognize my voice and my "singing" for example
form three years before. In style, I really can't say. Our musical tone and
style has been evolving during the years but I think with the release of
FREAKSHOW we finally found our true voice, and maybe only need to polish it a
bit.
Are
there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
Sure! We'd like to tour the US for
example, see Vencie beach, our pals at Vernian Process and maybe try our luck
in Las Vegas. We'd also like to visit Northern-Europe, and maybe hop over to
Russia. Russia is pretty obvious (we like slavic beauties and vodka, and I hear
the crowds are pretty sick there). Northern-Europe? I like the northern states,
especially Sweden. :D
What
bands would you like to play alongside?
Phew, as many as we can! Joking aside,
we'd like to play together with some of or influencers like Avatar, Viza or
Abney Park, but honestly we appriciate our underground pals just as much. What
matters is that we have some fun (and drinks) along the way.
Any
last words?
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh
wgah'nagl fhtagn!
