Interview With Colony Thirteen

Interview With Colony Thirteen

Colony Thirteen is a STHLM band that consists of William, Max, Hugo, Amanda & Jehoshua.

Tell us about Colony Thirteen?
We're a bunch of young people from Stockholm, Sweden who somehow got together and started playing music. We play experimental hardcore metal.

What are the lyrical themes of Colony Thirteen?
The themes are quite varied, there isn’t one theme for the entire EP or something like that. They vary from themes like a man slowly losing the memory of his wife (A familiar face), to reaching that perfect level of intoxication (Shalom). The lyrics have different authors, but ever since the vocalist Amanda joined she has been the main lyricist.

What are your influences?
Our influences are very diverse since we all listen to different kinds of music. Our main influences range from prog bands like Opeth to hardcore bands like La Dispute and Converge, but individually some of our favorite artists are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Dinosaur Jr, Iron Maiden and Paramore.

How did you choose the cover artwork for ”Unified”?
We chose an artist and let her come up with an idea based on the prelude and postlude lyrics, the name of the EP and how they all twine together.

How were the songs written?
Most often there is at least 2 people collaborating in writing the lyrics and music, then when the band is gathered at rehearsal we all add the finishing touches. Basically, everyone is involved more or less.

How did the recording process go?
Slow.

What are your future plans?
For now, we are going to focus on writing new material and hopefully start recording by the end of the year.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
We have had our sights on Norway and Germany, but in the future we would love to tour South America and Japan because of their amazing audiences.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
Gojira, Rolo Tomassi and Russian Circles are some of the bands we would like to play with.

Any last words?
Thank you for interviewing us and for reviewing our EP!
