Interview with Decipher, Progressive Death Metal Band from Luxembourg
Decipher is Progressive Death Metal Band from Luxembourg. Decipher
gave us some information. Check it out. Decipher @ Facebook
Tell us about Decipher?
Decipher started out as a Death Metal project in 2012 but as
we began to master our instruments and acquired a taste for different musical
styles it quickly shifted into Progressive Death Metal. We started to
incorporate different styles that don't fit into the standard mesh of Death
Metal as well as adding a general ambient vibe to the songs. Our debut album
'Intuition' which came out the 16. December of this year represents the results
of all those years.
What are lyrical themes of Decipher?
We get our lyrical inspiration from different domains such as
Philosophy, Spirituality or Anthropology.
For our debut album 'Intuition', we actually elaborated a
lyrical concept. The album describes a purification process and a journey to
discover the Self.
What are your influences?
We have a wide range of influences, from Jazz Fusion, Metal
to Electro and ambient music. The progressive realms of Metal are our primary
source for inspiration. although there are no limits to creativity.
Who are Your Favorite Luxembourg
Metal Bands?
Favorite Luxembourgish Metal Bands
are probably Retrace My Fragments, Soulhenge and Mindpatrol. And especially for
our vocalist: An Apple A Day!
How did you choose the cover artwork
for "Intuition"?
The cover artwork was created by Lenore from 'Ani Artworks',
based on the concept behind the album. Our idea was to make something
atmospheric which reflects the music and the album concept, but for the rest
everything was done by Lenore. She did some magnificent work!
How were the songs written?
The songs were mainly written at home by the guitarists.
However those songs were always elaborated together at rehearsals, which gave
them a much more 'organic' feel. This feel simply can't be reached when the
songs are written at home. This is why we were always a band that loved jamming
together.
How did the recording process go?
The recording process took more time than expected. By the
end of 2015, Guitars,Bass and Vocals were recorded by a friend of us in his
little home studio. Finally the drums were recorded in March 2016 in Tilburg,
the Netherlands, with Jasper Barendregt and Tymon Kruidenier who also did the
Mixing and Mastering for the album.
What are your future plans?
Our next step is to write new songs and to try out some new
ideas and approaches.Furthermore we are getting ready to play live again.
Unfortunately, we have to continue without our drummer Gregory, who also
recorded drums on the album, because he is pursuing his studies in Vienna. But
preparations are running at the moment.
Are there any countries you’re
interested in touring or performing in? Why?
First of all, we will start on the
local scene in Luxembourg and then we shall see.
What bands would you like to play
alongside?
Probably Fallujah, Allegaeon and The
Contortionist.
Any last words?
